Surgeon. Educator. Communicator.

ABOUT DR NNEKA EZE

Dr Nneka Eze is a Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon and corporate educator based in London.

For more than two decades, she has worked in medicine and surgery — environments in which preparation, concentration, judgement, teamwork, communication and performance under pressure are part of everyday life.

It is this experience that sits at the heart of her corporate education work.

As a surgeon, Dr Eze has spent her career making complex decisions, communicating with patients and multidisciplinary teams, managing uncertainty and maintaining focus in demanding clinical environments. Her corporate sessions combine this first-hand experience with the science of how the brain and body respond to stress and pressure.

Her aim is not to teach corporate audiences medicine. It is to use a surgical and scientific perspective to help people better understand how they think, communicate and perform when the pressure is on.

About-Shape-1

She became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery in 2011 and was appointed as a Consultant ENT Surgeon at St George’s Hospital, London, in 2014, where she worked in both adult and paediatric ENT before moving into full-time private practice.

Surgical training and experience

Dr Eze graduated in medicine from Imperial College London in 1999, having previously completed an intercalated BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry.

She undertook her surgical and specialist ENT training within the South West Thames region, with experience at leading institutions including Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, Evelina London Children's Hospital and St George's Hospital.

She subsequently completed two highly competitive advanced clinical fellowships: Otology and Hearing Implantation at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital and Paediatric ENT at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. These fellowships were advertised internationally and reserved for surgeons who had already completed specialist training and demonstrated a high level of surgical ability.

Her international experience also included research and clinical work at Columbia University in New York and further fellowship experience at University Hospital Zurich.

Research and academic background

Dr Eze has maintained a strong academic interest throughout her career.

She spent 18 months at Columbia University, New York, undertaking basic science research into cochlear micromechanics and the function of the inner ear. This work led to the award of an MD by the University of London.

She has authored peer-reviewed research publications and presented her work nationally and internationally, including at the Royal Society of Medicine.

Teaching and education

Education has been a consistent theme throughout Dr Eze’s career.

She has taught undergraduate medical students and postgraduate surgical trainees and previously worked as an educational supervisor at St George's Hospital.

Her interest in making complex medical information understandable also led her to create Dr Eze Explains, a growing library of animated educational films designed to prepare children, teenagers and families for hospital appointments, investigations and procedures.

The project has been developed with healthcare settings in mind, with the aim of supporting clearer, more accessible patient education across healthcare organisations.
That same philosophy runs through her corporate work: take complex science, make it understandable, and make it useful.
